CERTIFIED TRANSPORT PLANNER CAPABILITY OUTLINE
To qualify as a CTP candidate, you must be able to accumulate at least 400 points from the following table of Transport Planning exposure areas, subject to the minimum and maximum points set out in the table.
Please note what constitutes “examples” and “supporting evidence” for each Exposure Area. If your application includes qualifications and/or other experience obtained from overseas education and training institutions or professional associations, it would assist assessment if you could provide explanatory advice indicating equivalence to Australian circumstances.
All copies of documents subsequently submitted to your nominated assessing organisation must be sighted and signed as to be true and original by a person included on the Commonwealth Government’s Statutory Declaration Signatory List, or a person holding CTP accreditation. The List provides a wide range of options for certification of your documents, and includes persons who are a Justice of the Peace, hold specified positions in the Defence Forces, are permanent employees of government authorities or are members of a number of professional associations. 1. Current or Recent Transport Planning Experience.
Examples of experience: 6 years as Traffic Engineer, 3 years as Transport Planning Team Leader, 2 years as a Travel Demand Management officer, 2 years as a Traffic/Transport Assistant, 5 years as a teacher/lecturer of Transport Planning Management.
Examples of supporting evidence to be provided: Resume with details of referees, job description(s)
2. Current or Recent Transport Planning Management Experience.
Examples of management experience: 6 years as Transport/Traffic Manager, 3 years as Transport/Traffic Team Leader.
Examples of supporting evidence to be provided: Resume with details of related referees, job description(s)/position statement(s) certified by an accompanying letter from relevant employe
3. Higher Education in Transport Planning or Related Discipline.
Examples of educational qualifications: In general terms, a university provided award or equivalent international professional qualification in transport planning or management, such as a Bachelor degree in Engineering/Geography/Economics/Town Planning with or without a Traffic/Transport Planning major, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in a Transport Planning/Management area, Master Degree in Transport Planning/Management, other Master Degree/ MBA that includes courses in transport related areas.
Examples of supporting evidence: Official or certified copy of transcript from education provider, listing modules/courses successfully completed as part of award received, together with a certified copy of award (eg Graduate Diploma, Degree). The nominated assessing association will determine equivalence during the assessment process.
4. Vocational Training and Executive Programs.
Examples of vocational training: In general terms, a Certificate or Diploma provided under the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) or equivalent international framework in transport management, including transport modes or infrastructure management.
Examples of executive program: Short courses in transport evaluation methods/modal operations/traffic precincts. Intensive program in traffic or transport management, or leadership development program directed to roles in transport/traffic planning or management.
Examples of supporting evidence: Official or certified copy of transcript from training provider, listing modules/courses successfully completed as part of award received, together with a certified copy of award (eg Certificate)). For executive programs, a record of attendance and outcomes. The nominated assessing association will determine equivalence during the assessment process.
5. Professional Membership of Transport Planning Associations.
Example of professional membership: AITPM ,CILTA, LAA, SCLAA, Apics.
Examples of supporting evidence to be provided: Official letter of membership and length of membership from association.
6. Transport Planning Continuing Professional Development Activities During The Past Three Years.
Examples of programs: Industry Conference, Association Conferences, Seminars.
Examples of supporting evidence to be provided: Conference overview and proof of attendance.
7. Industry Leadership Roles in Transport Planning During The Past Three Years.
Example of roles: Chair, President, Vice President, Director, Committee Member, and/or Sub Committee Member of Government and/or Non-government entities or project groups.
Examples of supporting evidence to be provided: Letter of appointment or reference letter from entity or group chair/president.
8. Transport Planning-related Industry Participation and Contributions.
Examples of participation: Published work, presentation/speaking engagement, conference chair, breakout leader, judging panel, industry mentor.
Examples of supporting evidence to be provided: Overview/copy of event paper, etc and proof of participation/contribution therein.
9. Transport Planning Recognition/Awards.
Examples of recognition/awards: Scholarships, study tours, graduation awards, industry award.
Examples of supporting evidence to be provided: Overview of recognition/award and proof of receipt.
